It has been true about the past that if you want to control a DC motor, you go out and buy a DC motor driver. But if you want to drive a stepper motor, it may be that the same DC motor driver, or a combination of these, could be used to drive the new load. If you are lucky, you may be able to find a device that will be able to tackle both driving needs. But what if we don’t need to resort to luck anymore? What if there is an H Bridge family of devices that is so versatile that by maintaining the EXACT same layout you can drive two totally different motor loads?

Enter the DRV88xx family of devices from Texas Instruments. I call it the DRV88xx because there is actually 10 devices that fall on this category. And they all do a totally different thing, although their layout is, like I said before, EXACTLY THE SAME AS IN IDENTICAL! And the devices are:

NOTE: Also in essence doable, we recommend these devices to be soldered into our AE-MDL-MegaBridge board as it has been optimized to drive the single H Bridge configuration.

Now, if the question is which one of these devices can I use on my AE-MegaMotor module, then let me answer it with this: All of them! Because the layout was preserved, it is a matter of placing whichever device on our versatile layout board and WALAS! You are ready to go.

A dual set of control lines gives you access to monitor the control lines or to use it as a breakout point to interface to subsequent modules.
